Talecris and IGIV

We first introduced Immune Globulin Intravenous (IGIV) in the 1980s in response to a need to manage serious and often life-threatening conditions. Since then, we have maintained a long tradition of innovative North American "firsts" in IGIV manufacturing: the first liquid ready-to-use IGIV formulation, the first IGIV product to be formulated at low pH for optimal stabilization, the first 10% high-concentration liquid ready to use preparation, and the addition of solvent-detergent inactivation as a second virus inactivation step. This process step inactivates enveloped viruses such as the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis C virus (HCV) and hepatitis B virus (HBV). With this addition, we became the first manufacturer of an IGIV product to incorporate four distinct steps in the virus clearance process.

Gamunex® continues to uphold our record of innovation by establishing a new safety paradigm. This new idea in IGIV involved the redesign of our entire manufacturing process from the ground up.

We are continually challenging ourselves to improve upon all our products, and Gamunex® (Immune Globulin Intravenous [Human], 10% Caprylate/Chromatography Purified) was no exception.

We know that IGIV is a therapy critical to patients' lives. However, we also know that as we've continuously improved IGIV quality over the last two decades, we stretched the old technology to its limits. So, as we began the development of a new generation of IGIV product, we concluded the only way to continue improving was to go back to the drawing board.

We took our many years of experience and our knowledge of unmet medical needs and used that expertise to develop a new manufacturing technology for Gamunex.
